NEW EQUINE TEAM MEMBER ARRIVES
A new member of our equine team joined the Warwickshire training team this week. Mr Blue (full name is Prussian Blue) is a beautiful 6 year old grey 16.1 hands Trakehner gelding with wisdom beyond his years.
He is soft and gentle, loves people and likes to playfully nudge until you make it clear where the boundaries are.
He arrived at our Warwickshire stables on Sat 10th Oct 2015 and we turned him out with Opus. Opus is our 27 year old wise thoroughbred who is easygoing with any horse so we thought he would look after Mr Blue. Opus quickly started to boss Mr Blue about and gently show him the boundaries.
After 2 days, Opus decided he didn’t want the responsibility of babysitting any more and refused to go back out with him. We swapped Opus out and brought Kalle in. As the only mare in this herd, having a new gelding in the mix is certainly shaking things up. There was much posturing by all four horses, alternating between Kalle being smitten by Mr Blue, followed by all four horses going off at a gallop either side of a fence.
It will be some weeks before all four horses can be integrated because Tiffin is unskilled in herd behaviour and is likely to bully Mr Blue and we want to avoid serious injuries occurring.
It’s a privilege to watch the horses as they go through the same forming, storming, norming, performing process that human teams do. Of course they are less polite than people so we can expect the usual clarity from each horse.
Mr Blue will be given a few weeks to settle in before we introduce him to the Leadership with Horses work but clients who visit will have the privilege of seeing the integration process live in action.
